Dante 3th of Divine Comedy Paolo and Francesca

Love which quickly seizes on a gentle heart
took this man for the fair person
that was reft from me and the manner of it still distresses me.
Love that exempts no one loved from loving in return
seized me for the charm of this man so firmly
that as you see it does not yet leave me.
Love led us to one death.
Caina awaits him who quenched our lives».
These words were borne to us from them.

Amor ch’al cor gentil rattto s’apprende,
prese costui de la bella persona
che mi fu tolta; e ‘l modo ancor m’offende.
Amor, ch’a nullo amato amar perdona,
mi prese del costui piacer sì forte,
che, come vedi, ancor non m’abbandona.
Amor condusse noi ad una morte.
Caina attende chi a vita ci spense».
Queste parole da lor ci fur porte.

Today we talk about the 3th lyric of Dante. I choose a passage where the main characters are Paolo and Francesca. They talk about their dirty love, in fact Francesca was married, but the passion is more intense than her marriage so she can’t hold out and when they read a book the passion of the book became their passion. Love is the main word of this lyric, they haven’t remorses because their love was true and one prove of this is that they come toghether in the hell. Dante have to punish their adulterer love, but he understands that the power of love is more important so we have a tragic situation and we are separated between the true love and the loyalty. And you ? what do you choose? Passion or loyalty?
